Dakar Workshop
The UN Security Council:
Assessing the Impact of Twenty Years of Counterterrorism in Africa
Multi-Stakeholder Perspectives from Across the Continent
June 2-3, 2022
SFI, in partnership with the African Center for the Study and Research on Terrorism (CAERT), convened counterterrorism officials from a number of countries in Africa, representatives from African sub-regional bodies and a range of United Nations entities, as well as researchers, and civil society for a dialogue on the impacts of United Nations Security Council counterterrorism efforts in Africa over the past 20 years.
Workshop participants offered a series of practical recommendations for the future direction of the Security Council’s counterterrorism efforts across the continent. Discussions centered on the importance of having the Council focus more attention on tailoring its CT efforts in Africa to better reflect and address the varied local and sub-regional concerns, needs, and capacities across the continent.
